Shmoop’s mission: To make learning and writing more fun and relevant for students in the digital age.

Shmoop is an educational website for college and high school students and teachers. Shmoop content is written primarily by Ph.D. and Masters students from Stanford and Berkeley, many of whom have taught at the college or high school levels.

CrunchBase reports that Shmoop has almost 100,000 hits per month with a monthly growth rate of 20,000.  That equates to approximately $30,000 of advertising revenue per month.  With the current growth rate yearly advertising revenues will top $500k.  This is an excellent example on the amount of revenue a free college would earn.  With all the free publicity and excitement surrounding such a venture, the free online college would easily top these numbers the first couple months.
